Bvlgari’s creative director Lucia Silvestri was bit by the inspirational bug when she saw Bvlgari catalogs and correspondence in the artist’s archives (Nicola Bulgari and Andy Warhol were pals). She explains: “I wanted to do something about this fantastic dialogue between Bvlgari and Andy Warhol.”

Austin says he found the inspiration for the piece while growing two plants of his own, having to invest in the health of the plants and studying them as they took shape. It was a great way to combine his passion for jewelry engraving with a new one of growing cannabis.

The core concept of changing manufacturing into a green process goes further than just materials. It is about changing things from the ground up.

We’ve been looking at the innovative uses of hemp this week for Hemp History Week. While the concept of a mostly hemp body on a vehicle, aside from Henry Ford’s singular attempts almost a century ago, is a relatively new feat for the Western Hemisphere, some European manufacturers have been incorporating hemp panels into their designs for over two decades. Sure we all “ooh” and “aah” when hemp is mentioned in a product description, but the core concept of changing manufacturing into a green process goes further than just materials. It is about changing things from the ground up.
The latest example: the new BMW-i3.
Government regulations in the 1990’s forced most European car manufacturers to go greener by using recyclable materials, and BMW took to the challenge with gusto. It started out with trunk liners and airbag parts, but as the molding of hemp into sturdy, lighter-than-steel panels became more practical, they expanded the innovation. By 2006, the entire BMW 5 series used hemp door panels.

Taking the concept of going green even further, BMW has developed an all-electric sedan of their own, to rival the likes of Tesla and others steering the future of vehicle manufacturing into brave new territory.
The BMW i3 not only takes advantage of the lighter-but-stronger hemp material in several facets of its design, it does so proudly. The car uses the natural aesthetic to make the passenger experience less like a machine, and more like “a small loft on wheels”, according to i3 designer Benoit Jacob. Those natural features even include olive leaf tanned leather and open-pore eucalyptus wood accents, grown in a certified forest.

Hempearth Group is set to build the world’s first plane made from and powered by HEMP. Not only the plane set to run on HEMPEARTH Hemp Jet A Bio Fuel, but it is set to be built almost entirely from HEMP. Everything from the seats, the wings, the plane walls and even the pillows are set to contain hemp.
Details: The world’s first plane made from and powered by HEMP can hold one pilot and four very lucky passengers. The plane’s wingspan is 36 feet.
Why Build A Plane Made From Hemp?
HEMP/Cannabis, in addition to being one of the world’s healthiest, and most versatile plants on earth, HEMP is pound for pound 10 times stronger than steel. This means that it can withstand a lot more weight before and breaks, and it can bend way further than metal. Great for Aviation.
Additionally, traditional aerospace materials are heavier than hemp and toxic and not sustainable. Most manufacturers use aluminum and fiberglass to built planes. Hemp is significantly lighter and therefore requires a lot less fuel to get up in the sky.
Most importantly, hemp is an environmentally friendly material. Hemp requires way less water and land to grow than cotton and even puts nutrients back into the soil through a process called phytoremeditation.
Who Designed It
Canadian cannabis company Hempearth and the leader in HEMP and Marijuana developed the world’s first HEMP plane. Founded in 2012, Hempearth also sells 100% HEMP Surfboards, Paddleboards, Oils, Cannabis, 100% HEMP Board and a variety of organic products and the company is also developing The World’s First HEMP Fiber Body Phone. Florida company, Velocity, Inc. is set to manufacture the plane and a signed manufacturing contract is in place. The company also turned down Dupont as they don’t and never will sign or work with fascist companies that are associated with military, The Rockefellers, The Rothchilds and or the Military Industrial Complex.

Daniel Fetcho’s paintings honor marijuana beyond cliche stoner culture.

When you see weed in pop-culture, it’s often some play on pot leaves and a swirl of Rastafarian colors. Daniel Fetcho became fed up with the stereotypical way marijuana is represented and wanted to help get rid of the clichés. Marijuana has a history in almost every culture, so Fetcho decided to look back into his bi-cultural Chinese-German and Irish background to create different representations of marijuana that appeal to a broader audience.
The Los Angeles-raised artist says, “It was clear to me that a major barrier keeping cannabis from the mainstream was a branding one.”
